November is a month of giving thanks. Ms. Nuckles class took time out of the day to write 3 things that they are thankful for. Students were greatful for so many things! Ask your child what 3 things they wrote on their feather!
Second grade is getting ready for cold and flu season. Nurse Jenna came in to talk to students about how to prevent spreading germs. She took some plush germs to show them what each germ looks like under a microscope! The nurse discussed proper handwashing techniques. When washing your hands, you should sing your ABCs or Happy Birthday to ensure you are getting rid of any germs on your hands. It is important to wash your hands after you use the restroom, before you eat, or any time your hands are just plain dirty! Thanks Nurse Jenna for going in to talk with 2nd graders about germs! Second graders are reading about firefighters this week and have had the special opportunity to have a fireman come into our classrooms and talk about their job, what it’s like, and what they have to wear. This was such a wonderful opportunity for children to see a fireman close up and be able to ask them questions one-on-one. Thank you to Mr. Heather, Mr. Fonseca, and the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department. Two Turner Elementary students, Calvin Denson and Ella Jones, who swim for the Turner Swim Academy had the privilege of getting to attend the Mutual of Omaha BREAKout swim clinic. The clinic was held Saturday, Sept. 8th at the YMCA in North Kansas City. Ian Crocker and Misty Hyman, gold medal winning Olympians, spoke to them and instructed the kids on technique and drills. The Turner Swim Academy is offered through Turner recreation and is a year round program. It is a developmental swim league for ages 5-18 and competitive skills are learned through parctice and through competing in swim meets! Calvin and Ella both got to race Ian and had a day they will never forget! |
